Manufactured by Glasi Hergiswil.
The “Glashuette Hergiswil” or short “Glasi”
is existing since 1817 and was started by the Siegwart brothers
in Hergiswil at the shores of beautiful Lake Lucerne. It was the
perfect location - logistically and energy wise.
In 1975 the glassworks was ready to close its manufacturing plant.
It wasn’t upgraded with the now existing newer technology
and the automated production in cheaper producing countries was
taking its toll on the company.
The employees, in particular ROBERTO NIEDERER (1928 – 1988)
a glass art designer and the town itself saved the plant and its
jobs. The Glasi as it is known today was born and Roberto’s
son Robert took over the company shortly before his father died
in 1988.
Visitors can try themselves in glass blowing and watch the employees
during the manufacturing of the various designer collections now
carried by the company.
With its over 100 employees the Glasi is going strong and finished
major renovations through the past few years. There is even a museum
attached with displays about its history and the history of glass
and there are some pretty amazing 3D staging.
Across the street from the plant are a retail store and a coffee
shop & restaurant using Glasi dishes for their meals.
Size: Ø 210 mm
This is a very elegant way to present the various cheeses we offer.
