Fondue - the National Dish
of Switzerland
The word Fondue comes from the French “fondre” which
means “to melt”.
For many this ancient dish enjoys a certain mystique. You may be
sure the Swiss themselves enjoyed this aura of mystery. At the World’s
Fair in 1939 Americans who had never been and might never get to
Switzerland first tasted the Fondue. A hit !! Back in 1939 however,
Fondue and cheese were foods pretty much thought to be synonymous
with the cooler months.
Times have certainly changed. Nowadays it is generally accepted
that Fondue is as delightful served on a pleasant summer evening
poolside as it ever was après-ski. In Switzerland Fondue
is considered a whole meal not a “cheese dip”, however
it is up to you if you want the Fondue as an appetizer, part of
a buffet or as a main dish.
Traditionally, crusty (artisan) bread is served with the Fondue;
other options are: chunks of apple or pears, grapes, cubes of boiled
ham, potatoes etc. – be creative.
We offer you our favourite “House Blend” as well as
many other Blends. Can’t
